It has officially been a full week since all thirteen students and our two advisers took the nation’s capitol by storm. Before our arrival there were very few of us who really knew each other, resulting in a very quiet first 12 hours. However one week later and we are the happiest and most cohesive group that has ever graced the streets of Washington D.C. (or anywhere else for that matter).

Below you will find a list of the top 6 quotes of the week that we would like to share with you.

5. “I was just standing next to George Washington’s statue comparing my height, as I so often do.”

The wonderful Austin Cannon was sharing a story with the group tonight when he stated his apparent hobby of comparing heights. Everyone around the table began laughing. It may be due to a lack of sleep on our part, or possible, but I promise you it was hilarious.

4. “Maps not Apps!”

While out and about in the city we tried to be true Washingtonians. We navigated the city using old fashioned maps, rather than any GPS system our Iphones may have had to offer. It must have worked for us, because here we are a week later still alive.

3. “Boy Howdy!”

A nice little exclamatory used by our very own Kati Seeman. We are all trying our best to learn the right usage of such an exclamatory but to be honest, we have not quite mastered it yet. Lucky for us, Kati has it down pat and never fails to liven up our conversation.

2. “Sorry, Darlin’ “

Who said there is no such thing as Iowa nice in Washington D.C.? Apparently I have been using this phrase quite frequently in the nation’s Capitol and it is slowly rubbing off on the entire group. By the time we make it back to Iowa they will all be using the endearing sentiment without even realizing it.

1. “This is not how this works. This is not how any of this works!”

Motto of the week could be considered an understatement. We may have learned a lot this week, but we also learned how things do NOT work.

With one week behind us we are eagerly looking ahead to the next. We have a plethora of memories under our belt to take away with us. Keep up on the blog to hear a few of the quotes of week number two!
